How to Use Hulk's New Conditions Feature to Target the Right Discounts to the Right Customers
Learn how to target volume discounts with the new Conditions feature in Hulk Discount Bundles & BOGO. Control who sees offers using customer, cart, and location-based rules.
5 minutes, 2 seconds
Every ecommerce merchant knows the struggle. You want to offer a generous bulk discount to reward your loyal VIP customers, but you don't want a one-time bargain hunter to abuse it. Or perhaps you want to run a wholesale-style volume discount, but only for buyers in specific geographic markets where shipping costs make those margins viable.
Historically, setting up these highly targeted promotions meant creating a tangled web of duplicate discount codes, relying on complex workarounds, or simply crossing your fingers and showing the same offer to everyone.
Not anymore.
We are incredibly excited to announce that the Conditions feature is now live for Volume Discount offers in the Functions version of the Hulk Discount Bundles & BOGO app!
This update gives Shopify merchants unprecedented, fine-grained targeting control directly inside the app. Now, you can decide exactly who gets to see and claim your volume discount offers - and, just as importantly, who should be blocked from seeing them.
Here is everything you need to know about how this new feature works and how to set it up today.
Why Target Your Discounts? (The Power of Conditions)
Broad, store-wide discount campaigns certainly have their place. But if you want to protect your profit margins while simultaneously scaling your conversion rates, targeted discounting is the gold standard.
When you show an offer to a customer who is highly likely to respond to it, and hide it from those who don't need an incentive to buy, you win on both ends.
With the new Conditions tab (located right next to your standard Offer setup when creating or editing a volume discount), you can build sophisticated logic rules without touching a single line of code.
Instead of building separate campaigns for every micro-audience, you can manage the eligibility of a single volume discount offer based on real-time customer data, cart values, and geographic locations.
Part 1: Apply Conditions - Choosing Who Sees Your Offer
Under the Apply discount if section of the Conditions tab, you can build one or more condition sets to dictate when an offer is eligible to display.
You can base these rules on seven distinct criteria:
-
Customer Tag: Target specific segments, such as "VIP", "Wholesale", or "Subscribers".
-
Customer Order Count: Differentiate your offers between brand-new shoppers (order count is 0) and highly active returning buyers.
-
Cart Subtotal: Only trigger the volume discount when the buyer's current cart value crosses a certain financial threshold (e.g., $100+).
-
Cart Quantity: Trigger offers based on the total number of items already in the cart.
-
Geo Country: Target or exclude shoppers based on their physical location.
-
Market Country: Align your discounts with your specific Shopify Markets configurations.
-
Customer Type: Keep it simple by targeting "Guest" checkout users versus "Logged-in" accounts.
Designing Advanced Logic with Condition Sets
You aren’t limited to just one rule. The Conditions feature supports nested logic. Each condition set can require all (AND) or any (OR) of its conditions to match.
Furthermore, you can use Combine condition sets to decide how multiple groupings interact. This means you can easily build highly advanced target rules like this:
Example: Show this 20% Volume Discount if:
-
The cart subtotal is over $100 AND the Customer Type is "Returning"
-
OR
-
The Customer Tag is "VIP"
A Quick Note on Product Page vs. Cart Availability
Because we want your customer experience to be seamless, it is important to understand how Shopify handles data across different pages.
Certain pieces of data - specifically Cart Subtotal and Customer Order Count - rely on information that isn't fully processed while a customer is simply browsing a product page. That data only locks in once an active cart exists.
-
What this means for your storefront: If your conditions rely on Cart Subtotal or Order Count, the volume discount offer table will still display on the product page to encourage the user to buy.
-
The checkout experience: The final eligibility for the discount is evaluated and confirmed once the customer reaches the cart. If they meet the criteria there, the discount applies. If they don't, it is safely held back.
Part 2: Suppression Rules - Choosing Who Never Sees Your Offer
Sometimes, deciding who shouldn't see a discount is more important than deciding who should. That is where Suppression Rules come in.
Located under the Do not apply discount if section, suppression rules act as an absolute override. If a customer matches a suppression rule, they will not receive the discount, even if they perfectly qualify for all of your "Apply" conditions.
Currently, suppression can be configured using:
-
Customer Tag
-
Customer Order Count
Why Use Suppression?
Imagine you are running a massive volume discount campaign to clear out excess stock for retail shoppers. However, you already give your wholesale clients a flat 40% off across your entire store via their custom tag.
By setting a suppression rule for the tag wholesale, you ensure that your B2B buyers don't double-dip on discounts, preserving your wholesale margins without requiring you to run a completely separate retail-only app.
If you don't need any exclusions, simply leave this section blank. If no suppression rules are present, the app will evaluate your "Apply" conditions normally.
Migration Info for Existing Merchants
If you have been using Hulk Discount Bundles & BOGO for a while, you might have previously set up Geo Location or Customer Tag rules under the old Other Settings menu.
Don't worry - you don't have to rebuild anything.
We have automatically migrated all of your existing settings over to the new Conditions tab. None of your live configurations or targeting rules have been lost. They have simply moved to a cleaner, more powerful home under Apply discount if so you can manage all your targeting rules in one unified place.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
The new Conditions tab is exclusive to Volume Discount offers running on the Functions version of the app. If you are using an older, draft-order-based version of the app or a different discount type (like a basic BOGO or Bundle), the Conditions tab will not be visible for that specific offer.
Yes! In fact, this is how the feature is designed to be most powerful. You can use Apply Conditions to target a broad group (e.g., Apply to all customers in Canada) and simultaneously use Suppression Rules to exclude a specific subgroup (e.g., Do not apply if customer tag is Wholesale).
Suppression rules always win. If a customer matches any of your ‘Do not apply discount if’ rules, they will be blocked from receiving the discount, even if they perfectly meet every single one of your ‘Apply discount if’ conditions.
This happens when your conditions rely on Cart Subtotal or Customer Order Count. Because this data is only fully calculated once a cart is actively built, the product page will show the offer table to encourage engagement. However, the app will do a final check at the cart screen to verify if they actually met the subtotal or order history threshold before applying the price cut.
Absolutely. We automatically migrated all legacy Geo Location and Customer Tag rules from ‘Other Settings’ directly into the new Conditions tab. Your active discount campaigns will continue to run smoothly without interruption or manual setup required on your part.
