How Custom Plugs uses SC Order Tags & Flows on Shopify to speed up fulfillment and streamline order processing

Custom Plugs had been facing challenges with platforms that didn’t fit their business or their way of working when scaling up. After some considerable pain testing alternatives, they eventually embraced Shopify as their platform of choice. They discovered through testing that the platform was both scalable and flexible. But, success has not been without its challenges. Having started out with minimal selling and tech experience there has been a lot of trial and error along the way.

During the growth of the business, the team identified a need to segment their orders with automated tags as certain orders needed to be fulfilled by specific team members and other orders needed fulfilling before a certain time of day. Initially all orders were bundled together and only filterable by Shopify's native filters which was massively inefficient. They soon identified that they needed a way to quickly and easily segment their orders for speedier fulfillment.

Liquify are officially recognized Shopify Experts. They have been designing & developing on the Shopify platform since 2010. Their reputation as a leading Shopify design, development & marketing agency precedes them. They are the go-to Shopify agency for hundreds of successful Shopify merchants. Their code powers hundreds of millions of dollars worth of e-commerce businesses. And they are world renowned for helping clients smash the competition in Google.

Why Liquify Designs suggested SC Order Tags & Flows for speedy fulfillment

During the growth of the business, the team identified a need to segment their orders with automated tags as certain orders needed to be fulfilled by specific team members and other orders needed fulfilling before a certain time of day. Initially all orders were bundled together and only filterable by Shopify's native tagging system. That’s why Liquify Design's Head Developer, Joe Dempsey, suggested they use SC Order Tags & Flows to provide automated tagging workflows.

“This app has been a massive time saver for most merchants and an app which the team at customplugs.com love.”

Using SC Order Tags & Flows wide range of workflow criteria, Liquify Design was able to start by creating a workflow to tag orders based on the shipping country/region. This helped them to batch fulfill orders for specific countries. As they use different postal services for those regions, this allowed them to cut down on the number of courier callouts per region. Next, to help them to identify orders containing products that required custom printing, they set-up a workflow to tag those orders so that they could be allocated to the team members responsible for printing those products.

“The app makes segmenting orders a doddle.”

In total, Custom Plugs has 250 workflows set-up in the app to tag and segment their orders. Each one of these workflows saves them time & energy. Each staff member can now go in and batch find/fulfil/print all of the orders allocated to them. It's fully automated and works in the background, tagging orders almost as soon as they have been placed.

Liquify’s top tips for managing orders on Shopify

  1. Use an app for tagging

Using an app like SC Order Tags & Flows is a massive time saver for many merchants where orders need to be segmented and organised.

  1. Be consistent

Often we find different members of staff process orders in different ways leading to

uncertainty around fulfillments, communication with customers etc. Having a clear guide for staff managing orders at every step saves time and headaches.

  1. Don’t always think you’re limited to Shopify for managing orders

Lots of merchants find that selling over multiple channels and trying to get all data into Shopify leads to a headache in the Shopify admin. There’s a ton of software out there which enables you to manage orders from multiple channels in one place outside of Shopify. The centre of control is often better off outside of Shopify depending on how and where you sell.
